EV charging
EV Charger Installation in Sammamish
The first charger is straightforward. The second one is where the plateau gets interesting.
Charging sized to what is left
Up here the panel is rarely the problem on charger one. It becomes the problem on charger two, when a household with two electric cars tries to put sixty amps of continuous load onto a service already carrying a heat pump, a hot tub circuit and an induction range. That is a maths problem before it is an installation problem. A load calculation tells us whether you need two independent circuits, one circuit and load management, or a conversation about the service itself. Most of the time it is the middle answer, and it is cheaper than people expect.
What is included
A load calculation first
What the service can still carry with everything existing counted. Skipping this is why chargers get installed and then trip.
The circuit, correctly sized
Conductors and breaker matched to the unit and the run, not to whatever was on the van.
Load management where it fits
Two chargers sharing capacity safely, which on a full plateau service is usually better value than a service upgrade.
Permit and inspection
Filed, booked and met by us. EV circuits are inspected work in Washington.
Worth asking first
A second car is coming
The most common call we get in Sammamish, and the one most often mis-quoted as a service upgrade.
The garage is at the far end
On a large plateau house the run can be 80 feet or more, and that drives the conductor size.
A heat pump went in recently
Two large loads added in the same year is exactly the situation load management exists for.
The panel has no free slots
Common, and rarely fatal. There are several answers before replacing the service.
How the work runs
Open the panel
Service size, what is on it, what headroom is left.
Run the numbers
A real figure for what the house can carry, with the options laid out plainly.
Walk the run
We agree the unit position and the route with you before anything is cut.
Install and inspect
Circuit in, tested under load, inspector signs it off.
Questions about this work
Do two chargers mean a service upgrade?
Usually not. Load management lets two units share capacity safely, which on a typical plateau service is far cheaper than upsizing. The calculation decides it and costs nothing.
How fast will it charge?
Depends on the circuit and what the car accepts. A 40 amp circuit adds roughly 25 to 30 miles of range an hour for most vehicles, which covers a plateau commute several times over.
Can you fit a unit I already bought?
Yes, and we will tell you before fitting it if it is a poor match for your service rather than after.
